Frequently Asked Questions

Following is a selection of some of the most common questions that parents have about school policies. If you do not find the answers you need here, please check the student handbook for more information, or contact us during office hours.


    What is the earliest that I can drop my child off at school?

    If your child needs to eat breakfast, he/she may enter the building at 7:55 a.m. If breakfast is not involved, then your child may enter at 8:10 a.m.

    Is there an anti-bullying policy in place?

    Yes. In short, we do not tolerate any behavior that causes harm to others. We will evaluate incidents and determine what action to take on a case-by-case basis. For a full explanation of this policy, refer to the student handbook.

    What do I do if my child gets sick and can’t attend school?

    To prevent the spread of contagious illnesses, we request that students remain at home when ill. It is very important that you call the school office before 9:00 a.m. to let us know. If we do not hear from you, you will receive a call from our automated system to let you know that your child did not show up for school that day.

    How many absences is my child allowed throughout the school year?

    For each semester, your child is allowed five absences. We require a doctor's note for verification of absences exceeding five days.

    What is considered appropriate dress for school?

    We expect our students to wear clothing that is respectful to themselves and others, which is not distracting or extreme. Dressing appropriately for the winter weather is also important. Please do not permit your child to wear shorts to school unless we issue a warm weather notification via the messaging system.

    We do not allow:

    • Flip-flops, open-toed shoes, backless shoes, or other unstable footwear
    • Clothing that advertises drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, or other inappropriate images or language
    • Spaghetti strap tops
    • Exposed skin through cut-out backs or tops

    Will my child be assigned homework?

    Yes. We consider homework an important part of the educational process. We encourage you to become involved and work with your child to ensure work is completed.

    May my child bring electronic devices to school?

    Yes. Students also have access to iPads for classroom use. We expect all students to follow the Central Elementary School iPad Guidelines.

    What if my child loses his school book?

    We expect students or their families to replace lost books at the same cost as the school.

    Will my family’s religious beliefs be honored at the school?

    We encourage all students and staff members to be respectful of each other’s views and to promote understanding whether it involves race, culture, economic background, or religion.

    What is the visitor’s policy?

    Your child’s safety is of paramount importance to us, so anyone who visits during the school day must comply with our security procedures and go through the front office.

    How can I become a volunteer?

    We can’t function without our volunteers. You can check at the front desk for volunteer information. You will need to have a background check done, and after that, there are many positions available in which you can help.
