There is a lot to think about when helping your children through the school year, so we have compiled a list of commonly asked questions and their answers here for you. If you need more details, we encourage you to read our student handbook, which you can find in the quick links on the Home page. What is the admission age for students?

Students must be age five on or before August 1 of the year they wish to begin school.

What items are required to enroll my child?

We require child’s birth certificate (not the hospital birth record, but the official certificate), social security card, immunizations record, court or custody documents pertaining to the child, and proof of residency such as an electric bill or lease.

Where do I drop off and pick up my child?

If you are dropping off a student in the morning on a regular basis, you can do so in the circle drive in front of the building. If you are going to be picking up your child on a daily basis (from three to five days a week), then you can obtain a pick-up pass for your car from the school office. We will call your child to meet you in the circle drive at dismissal time.

Is there a dress code at LPS?

We encourage our students to wear apparel proper for the occasion. Because we encourage our students to play outside except in the most severe weather conditions, students should dress appropriately for the weather. We also ask that our students dress or groom themselves in a way that they will not distract other students from learning. Some examples of prohibited dress are:

• Mohawks, spiked, and extreme hairstyles

• Distracting makeup

• Hair colors not found naturally

• Shirts and tops that do not have high enough neckline to cover cleavage

• Spaghetti strap tops

• Lower garments that allow any portion of the bottom and/or undergarments to be exposed when the student sits, stands, raises a hand or bends over

• Hats worn in the building

• Shorts should not be worn to school from November 1 to March 31 due to poor weather conditions and health concerns. Should the weather become unseasonably warm, the school will make a building-based decision and communicate it to parents.

What is the procedure for reporting an absence?

When a student is absent from school, a parent must call the school during the morning of the student’s absence. The phone number is (812) 537-7239. If we do not get a call from the parent/guardian by 9:00 a.m., the LCS School Messenger automated program will call all listed numbers to verify the absence. If the parent or guardian is not able to call in, we request a written excuse within one school day of the student’s return.

Where can I get information about the after school program?

How will I get information about emergency school closings?

When inclement weather strikes, we must be prepared to deal with possible emergency school closings and delays. The School Messenger automated program will contact parents when the school will be closed for emergency reasons such as severe weather and power outages. Also, we ask that you please stay tuned to local radio and television stations for school information. We will be listed as "Lawrenceburg Community Schools," and there are three options to watch/listen for:

1. Closed - No school for students and staff

2. 2 Hour Delay - School will start two hours later than normal. This means buses will pick up students two hours later than usual. Breakfast is not served on these days.

3. Open with limited bus service - School is open, but buses will not run on some of the roads in the morning only. Please see the Emergency School Closing and Delay Information flyer for a detailed list of these roads and special instructions. Bus service will be available in the afternoons.
